Regional Initiatives
ENE's mission is to tackle environmental challenges that face the bioregion that encompasses New England and Eastern Canada. In addition to advocating for policies in individual states and provinces, ENE advances climate, energy and clean air solutions at the regional level. Regional initiatives include: the Climate Change Roadmap; the RGGI cap and trade program and exploring cap and trade options for Canada; qualifying demand-side resource for payments in the ISO-NE Forward Capacity Market (FCM); transmission and infrastructure issues; setting standards for sustainable use of biofuels; and, exploring the role of forests in climate change. Energy
As members of an official working group in ISO-New England's FCM process, ENE contributed to proposals and policy analyses on various elements and details of the market rule that applied to conservation, efficiency and consumer benefits. ENE also worked behind the scenes, meeting with state and regional stakeholders throughout New England to advocate for the fair treatment of demand side resources in the FCM. When ISO-NE held its first auction recently, 1,188 MW new demand-side projects were selected. [Read more about Regional Energy Reform]
Climate

Forestry & Biofuels
The Northeast's extensive forests could play a key role in climate change solutions due to their ability to sequester, or absorb, carbon and the alternative fuels their biomass can supply.Forests also play an important part in renewable energy strategies for the region. Wood chips can be burned for electricity generation or converted to liquid fuels.ENE is working with stakeholders to develop solutions and regulatory frameworks that balance the economic benefits of these potential revenue streams with GHG emissions concerns and the sustainability of the forest resource.
